Elaine Bishop is a classically trained mezzo-soprano based in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Her full performing CV can be downloaded here. 

Elaine has built up a reputation as an accomplished performer with various UK and international companies at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and was nominated 'Best Character Actress' for her role as Cousin Hebe in 'HMS Pinafore' in 2011.

Elaine has also performed with several professional companies on Gilbert and Sullivan works including 'HMS Pinafore' (Raymond Gubbay Productions), 'Trial by Jury' (Opera Minima) and 'Utopia' (Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company).

She has sung in prestigious national and international venues including the Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican and St Paul's Cathedral (London), The Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), The Symphony Hall (Birmingham), Buxton Opera House, Usher Hall (Edinburgh), Cologne Cathedral (Germany) and many more.

Solo stage experience

Elaine has performed as a soloist with many local and regional societies including Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players, Grantham Operatic Society and Lindum Light Opera Company.  However, over the last few years, Elaine has focused on developing and expanding her singing career in and beyond the local area.

Elaine has built up a reputation as an accomplished performer and soloist with various UK and international companies at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and was nominated 'Best Character Actress' for her role as Cousin Hebe in 'HMS Pinafore' in 2011.  She has also appeared as a soloist on the BBC as part of a news feature on the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and worked as a soloist with Opera Minima in 2011, playing Violet (a solo bridesmaid) in 'Trial by Jury.'

Ensemble roles with professional companies

Elaine has performed in the ensemble with several professional companies on Gilbert and Sullivan works including 'HMS Pinafore' (Raymond Gubbay Productions), 'Trial by Jury' (Opera Minima) and 'Utopia' (Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company). She has also worked with the Ellen Kent Opera Company as a singing extra in 'Aida' and 'La Boheme' and performed with the CLASSICfest Chorale for 'A Broadway Musicals Spectacular.'

These performances have enabled Elaine to perform in venues across the UK including the Royal Albert Hall and The Barbican (London), The Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), The Symphony Hall (Birmingham), Buxton Opera House, Hull New Theatre, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, The Usher Hall (Edinburgh) and many more.

Training

Elaine started vocal training at the age of 16 while studying for her A-Levels. This was then developed further under Judith Hartley while studying for a BA Joint Music and English Honours Degree at Hull University.

Since leaving Hull University, Elaine continued to train privately under the direction of Timothy Ochala-Greenough and started training with Julie Unwin in January 2014.

Elaine has also performed in masterclasses with many leading teachers and companies including Alison Pearce, Howard Milner, Linda Orminston and Opera North.
